Study of ICTs in Education by CETIC.br

Mapping on the platformization of education

Organized by Observatório Educação Vigiada, this mapping aims to detail which platforms are used in Brazilian educational institutions and other countries in South America. This information is essential, as it demonstrates the lack of clear policies on this use and the dependency relationship of institutions on GAFAM (the big technology companies). Studies by the Internet Steering Committee on Education Platformization

Do you know what education platformization is? It is about the integration of learning and communication platforms in education. These platforms can be open (such as Moodle) or private (such as Google Classroom). Do you know what happens to your data on these platforms? The internet steering committee (CGI) carried out a series of studies on the use and importance of data in the platformization of education. According to the researchers, "online behavior, profile information, location, what type of device they use, what they do while studying or in virtual classes and who they interact with are some of the data captured by the applications." The research finds the deep presence of the Google platform and other partnerships with private institutions, but also some solutions developed in-house by some departments.

UNESCO publications on digital education and artificial intelligence

UNESCO, the United Nations body for education, publishes a series of documents, articles and resources for free public information. It has a digital library (https://unesdoc.unesco.org/search) and recent publications on education, technology and AI. Here we suggest reading a short document on the Beijing Consensus, which contains the central and ethical recommendations for the use of AI in education. UNESCO adopts a perspective of stimulating access to these technologies, including an idea of "flexibility" of learning and lifelong learning; however, it highlights basic principles such as maintaining the centrality of the human (that is, technologies must be subordinated to human dynamics), guaranteeing human rights, promoting Sustainable Development.
